Since the start of the pandemic, life has been a little tougher for everyone. It’s not easy to get up every morning when there’s not much to look forward to. Several everyday simplicities have been given up in the past year in order to keep ourselves and others safe.
And most of the world has been seeing these instances as sacrifices, but we need to start looking at them as blessings. I understand that’s not easy by any means; it’s hard to look at your life and the world in a positive light when so many horrible things are happening. But the time to be upset is over, it’s time to start being thankful for what we have rather than what we don’t.
What
Romanticization
You need to start romanticizing your life. Romanticization is the act of idealizing and enjoying everyday mundane tasks. You simply treat things like they’re more exciting and purposeful than you usually would.
The same way Meryl Streep relishes in cooking dinner for herself or gardening in It’s Complicated. (If you haven’t seen that movie, oh my gosh you’re going to love it!) Meryl Streep is enjoying those simple, everyday things because she’s the main character in the movie – meaning you need to start acting like the main character in your life!
Why
The idea of “living your life for the weekends” has always terrified me. Why should you only have two or three days to look forward to out of the entire week?
But you don’t need to feel that way though in order to romanticize your life. Romanticization is something that should be practiced by everyone because it will only make your days happier and easier.
How
Be the Main Character
When you start being the main character in your story, it means you’re prioritizing your goals and your life. You’re no longer making anyone else the protagonist of your story because you stop admiring others and start chasing those dreams and goals that you’re envious of others having.
Start admiring yourself, and putting yourself first, and loving yourself. Stop letting others be at the front of your story because the first step to romanticizing your life is prioritizing yourself and living in the moment. And do not take life too seriously! It really never hurts to laugh, even on your worst days.
Obviously, those things are easier said than done, but it all starts with: remembering that there’s always something to be thankful for, a positive mindset, and some pastimes that make you happy. Try small actions like…
- creating healthy habits: making your bed, eating healthy, exercising
- listening to music that makes you happy while getting ready for the day
- planning trips or dates with yourself and/or friends/family to look forward to
- doing something every day that will make you laugh or smile (watching The Nanny always brightens my day)
- trying new things: start a blog, make a small side business, take on a new hobby, go plant shopping!
Remember not to take life too seriously! Laugh, listen to some fun music, cook good food, and surround yourself with good people. ♡
