Trying to find a good winter coat that will not only keep you warm but also stylish, can definitely be challenging. But as a New England resident, I have faced twenty years of frigid temperatures, blizzards, and harsh winds. And since moving onto a college campus and walking to classes in this weather, I have really hunted for an amazing winter coat that didn’t make me look like the State Puff Marshmallow Man.
This list will go from light jackets to heavier coats. Because depending on the climate you live in, you may not need an extremely heavy winter coat. This list will also consist of stylish winter jackets that can be layered over turtlenecks for cooler days without snow and negative temperatures. It is going to take some self-control to not shop all of these winter coats that will keep you warm and stylish.

For When Winter Arrives
Urban Outfitters // UO Carmella Reversible Hooded Teddy Jacket
Don’t feel like wearing a coat or heavy jacket? This hooded teddy is perfect for anyone lounging around the house, or needing something cozy to throw on for a trip to Target.
Abercrombie & Fitch // Faux Fur Cropped Coat
This cropped coat is the perfect way to stay warm while also looking chic. It comes in four colors that will match literally any outfit, and oh, did I mention that it’s 50% off?
H&M // Coat with Faux Fur Collar
Faux fur collars and lapels are very popular this season, but they usually pair with a hefty price tag. Hence why H&M will be your best friend this season because they offer hundreds of jackets and coats for affordable prices. The faux fur is also removable, and it comes in two other colors. Can’t you just picture Elle Woods in this? Minus all the pink, of course.
For 40 and below
Princess Polly // Moondance Jacket
If you’re not one for an abundance of faux fur, then sherpa and fleece are great alternatives. This sherpa lined jacket from Princess Polly is the perfect jacket if you’re looking to stay warm, but don’t want a puffer or long coat. Basically, everyone will be asking where you got this.
Abercrombie & Fitch // Faux Fur Mini Puffer
I have been eyeing this coat forever, you have no idea, and it just went on sale! It’s not your traditional puffer because it is made with faux fur rather than polyester and nylon fabric. It comes in 12 other beautiful colors, that’s right, 12. Don’t be surprised if you see this coat on my Instagram next week.

Lulu’s // Fortune Black Belted Long Jacket
A long, black coat is a piece everyone should have in their closet. If you’re looking for a jacket that will keep you warm, without all the faux fur, puffer-detailing, and poof, this piece is perfect then. This jacket will protect you from the cold, while also making you look as sophisticated as Miranda Priestly.
For the Snow
Abercrombie & Fitch // Ultra Mid-Length Puffer
Puffers are a massive trend for Winter and Spring 2021, especially in this shorter length. If you’re in need of a winter coat that will hold up against snowy weather, but you’re looking to avoid long coats, add this to your cart. It’s on sale.
Old Navy // Faux-Fur Lined Hooded Parka Coat
As someone who lives in New England, this is the type of coat I lean towards at the beginning of winter. A parka is a great winter coat if you want to avoid long, bulky coats. I wore a parka as my go-to winter coat throughout high school and didn’t upgrade to a long coat until college. You’ll not only look cute in this, but you’ll be warm as well.
L.L. Bean // Waterproof Packaway Long Coat
Having 8 A.M.’s every day throughout the winter is absolute torture. My previous winter coat could not hold up against walking across campus daily, so I invested in a real winter coat. This is not the exact coat I bought from L.L. Bean because they don’t sell mine anymore, but it’s really similar, and I could not recommend it more.
