Summer is quickly approaching, and so is my desire to online shop for all the new summer collections releasing. Every year I feel completely unsatisfied with the clothes I buy for the summer. I end up wearing the same outfit all summer long because none of my clothes are comfortable enough to wear on hot days or cute enough to post about on Instagram. But I end up envying all those cute fashion bloggers in their aesthetically pleasing sun hats on the beach, looking like models all summer long.
Thus, I have decided to help both of us out, by seeking out this year’s upcoming summer fashion trends. This way we can plan how to spend our money on clothing and prepare to look fashionable as heck. I’m going to keep it short and simple by giving you a list of 5 fashion trends you’ll be seeing this summer that you can easily add to your wardrobe!
Silk Scarves
My obsession with ’70s fashion is so unhealthy that I am beginning to dress like my mother in high school (sorry mom). ’90s fashion has been back in style for a while with the scrunchies and mom jeans, but finally, the ’70s are getting their moment. The popularity of silk scarves in the U.S. originated in the ’60s and ’70s, with celebrities like Goldie Hawn sporting them. They symbolized a free, bohemian look, which was basically the epitome of the ’70s “hippie” era. Today, they’re not only being worn as a hair accessory but also as a top! This summer trend is super affordable because you don’t need to own a fancy Burberry scarf. Because Amazon sells them for less than $10 that are just as chic.
High-Cut Swimsuits
High-cut swimsuits started to grow in popularity last summer, and now they are fully a trend. You can find a high-cut swimsuit bottom at almost any retailer selling swimwear because of how popular they have become. They were originally famous in the ’90s after Pamela Anderson wore them on Baywatch, but they are popular now because of the flattering shape they can add by accentuating women’s curves. If you are looking to make a statement on the beach, this is the swimsuit to buy.
Midi Skirts
I am a very petite person, my 5’1″ height often does not allow me to wear mini skirts because they’re always too long, and definitely not maxi skirts because those make me look even shorter and frumpier. But midi skirts are not made to be short or long, thus can work for any height. Midi skirts fall right below the knee, often at mid-calf length, and fitted in the waist. They have a distinct summer European look, as well, adding to their likeability. I can picture myself now in a midi skirt, standing outside the Trevi Fountain in Italia, throwing coins in the water, basking in the sunlight. It makes me want one even more! These are a really popular staple piece for any fashion connoisseur because they work well in any season. Wide-Leg Pants
Wearing full-length pants during the summer may not be your first choice. However, cool summer nights and days when you feel like covering up still happen, so shorts become your last option. And wide-leg pants should 100% be your solution to those days. Wide-leg Pants are very on-trend this summer specifically because you can be them in linen, which is a really popular material to buy for hot weather because it’s so breathable. For the summer, they are often purchased at a cropped length in order to provide more breathability.
Tie-Dye Everything
Tie-dye is something I’m often on the fence about when it comes to fashion. Simply because I view tie-dye as something you usually wear to bed, and not usually in public. However, with the current pandemic, everyone has been tie-dying these cute sets as a result of their boredom. And I am now behind the trend because of all the cute tik-tok tie-dye clothes I’ve witnessed and now want. People are not just tie-dying t-shirts, but full lounge-wear sets and it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Retailers caught onto this trend pretty quickly and started selling their own tie-dyed clothing, as well as swimsuits. You’re not going to be able to escape tie-dye this summer.
After this list, we practically have no excuse but to dress our best.
