Lately, I’ve been obsessed with action movies, which is quite interesting, because I’m a rom-com type of girl. However, I haven’t been interested in romance recently, but rather movies that include spies and suspenseful scenes that have me on the edge of my seat. Furthermore, I have compiled a list of some of my favorite action movies I’ve been rewatching lately and recommending to everyone! Thus, if you’re a rom-com lover like me, these movies will definitely get you into the action genre. Warning: All of these movies may contain very attractive men.
Kingsman
When I was younger, I loved spy movies (I still do!) and that was because of the movie Agent Cody Banks. I watched it every time it was on because it was so enjoyable to watch, and Kingsman fulfills that love for me as an adult. Kingsman is about a secret service in Britain that is looking to recruit new agents. Trouble-maker Eggsy, played by Taron Egerton, is spotted by a current agent and believes Eggsy has potential and recruits. Taron Egerton is absolutely amazing in this movie, he not only has the gymnastic skills to be a spy but is also witty and charming. This movie has the most epic fight scenes, they are definitely graphic and very fast-paced. If Taron Egerton’s talent alone isn’t enough for you to watch, Samuel L. Jackson stars in the first movie, and Julianna Moore stars in the second, alongside Egerton.
Mission Impossible
I was really hesitant to watch the Mission Impossible franchise because there were so many (6) and the span of time-released (from 1996-2018). However, after watching all six movies over the course of one week, it only makes them better. Tom Cruise’s amazing acting really shines in these films, especially for doing his own stunts. If you watch all six, they manage to get better and better (except movie 2, not necessary to watch), and I looked forward to watching the next one every night. The plot is always complex, but logical, and Ethan Hunt is a super-smart character that you root for the entire time. Plot twists, fight scenes, foreign settings — everything you could want in an action movie!
Marvel
You can’t go wrong with any of the Marvel movies, no matter which movie genre you’re in the mood for, Marvel can satisfy them all, especially action. I would recommend watching all of the Marvel movies because they’re that great, but if not, I’ll recommend my favorites. Iron Man 1-3 have great plotlines and realistic character development, and Robert Downey Jr. is one of the best actors ever. Spiderman 1 & 2 (starring Tom Holland) are fun and pretty different than the other Marvel franchise movies when it comes to the plot. Lastly, Captain America 1 & 2 have your classic fight scenes and starts the Marvel’s Avengers.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard
If you’re looking for an action movie that also has a comedic side, this is your movie. Ryan Reynolds is a professional bodyguard hired to protect a famous assassin (Samuel L. Jackson), who also happens to be his mortal enemy. Reynolds must get Jackson to England to stand trial, while also running from a dictator who wants Jackson dead. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson are an amazing duo — Reynolds’ constant sarcasm and Jackson’s lack of care in the world make for a witty movie with conflicts you’d never expect.
James Bond – Daniel Craig
(Now, I can only speak on the behalf of the Daniel Craig films because I haven’t seen the other Bonds.) Anyways, I loved these movies, and I only watched them for the first time this week. The films are insanely well made with the coolest of classic cars, wonderfully tailored clothes, and great acting. I never knew who I could trust in the film, and never knew how Bond would react. Most importantly, you will constantly be on the edge of your seat, while also wishing you knew how to fight like Bond.
This Means War
Lastly, if you’re looking for an action film with comedy, but also romance, this is your film. This Means War is about two CIA agents who are best friends that decide to sign up for a dating site and match with the same girl, played by Reese Witherspoon. Moreover, the CIA agents, played by Tom Hardy and Chris Pine, utilize their deadly skills to compete for her. Did I mention they’re also on a mission for the United States to take down a foreign enemy? Witherspoon is hilariously relatable when it comes to the dating scene, and Hardy and Pine make you wish you had a CIA boyfriend. This is your typical fun action movie if you’re in the mood for something that isn’t complex or deep, just light-hearted.
