Summer is officially in full swing! I live in New England, so after months of freezing cold weather, summer feels like a blessing. The weather has become warm enough that beach day trips are finally possible. However, anytime a beach day trip arrives on my calendar, I would spend forever packing a bag. I’m the type of person who feels the need to pack everything because I’m afraid I’ll forget something important! I honestly just need Hermione Granger’s bag to fit everything.
That’s not an option, unfortunately. After several years of beach trips and vacations, I’ve finally stopped packing my entire closet in my beach bag. If you’re like me, and Hermione, and always pack too much for the beach, this post was made for you. I’m going to share my beach day essentials that are necessary to pack, that you probably already have in your home!
1. Sunscreen
Starting this list off easy, sunscreen is obviously needed. I never forget sunscreen, it’s so important to protect your skin and body. I love this sunscreen because it’s dermatologist-tested and approved, doesn’t have that white residue, and it’s only $10 – so super affordable!
2. Sunglasses
Sunglasses are a serious necessity you cannot forget. This doesn’t require much explanation, but remembering sunglasses will make your day at the beach a lot more enjoyable. This way you can actually see on the beach instead of being blinded by the sun.
3. Portable Charger
I usually don’t use my phone much when I’m at the beach, because I try to spend time off screens when on vacation. However, the thought of my phone dying is stressful. I highly recommend bringing a portable charger, it’s super helpful and takes up little space. (This is the one I buy my boyfriend.)
4. A Good Book
Bringing a book to the beach is absolute heaven for me, because it can be one of the calmest places to read. There are so many novels that take place during the summer as well, which can make them a great read for the beach. I’m recommending a Jenny Han novel that’s on my “to-read” list this summer.
5. Chapstick
This is pretty self-explanatory. My lips are always chapped, so I carry chapstick everywhere with me. Did you know that you should be putting SPF on your lips? I have been buying this chapstick with SPF in it and I love it.
6. Sweatshirt/Hoodie
You never truly know how to weather is going to turn out, no matter where you go. Therefore, I try to bring a sweatshirt with me everywhere, especially to the beach. Once the sun goes down on the beach, it can cool down a lot since you’re by the ocean.
7. Hair Elastics
The last thing you want is your hair getting in your face when you’re at the beach. I have super long hair, so I always make sure to have hair elastics on me, especially for a beach day because it can get insanely hot. No one wants to deal with their hair down when its +80°F outside. (I like these because they don’t damage or crease your hair.)
8. A Towel!
Unless you plan on sitting in the sand, you’re going to need a beach towel. I like this one not only because of all the color selections, but it’s eco-friendly! It’s a good size as well because it’s not too big to carry in your bag.
9. Reusable Water Bottle
I swear by reusable water bottles because they’re so beneficial for the environment, rather than single-use plastic. Bringing a reusable water bottle to the beach is a must because your water will stay colder longer.
10. Beach Bag
To finish off this list, you’re going to need a beach bag! I personally enjoy having a designated bag for the beach, because it will definitely get ruined over time by the sand and ocean. You can pretty much get a beach bag anywhere during the summer, but I recommend this one because it’s really affordable, on trend and big enough to fit everything.
Hopefully, I could keep you from overpacking, or find some items that you were in need of! If you’re looking for more content, I have a post on beach outfit ideas, here.
